DWASA inks deal with HydroChina

Dhaka WASA signed Sunday a deal with HydroChina Corporation to construct a sewage treatment plant at Dasherkandi in the city's Khilgaon area, said a press release.

Dhaka WASA Managing Director Engineer Taqsem A Khan and HydroChina Corporation Vice President Chen Guanfu signed the deal at a city hotel on behalf of their respective sides.

Akram Al Hossain, additional secretary of Local Government Division under the Ministry of LGRD and Cooperatives, was present at the signing ceremony.

To ensure sewerage service for city dwellers, Dhaka WASA has taken up a project titled 'Dasherkandi Sewage Treatment Plant project'. The project, jointly financed by EXIM Bank of China, Bangladesh Govt and Dhaka WASA, will be completed at a cost of Tk 33.17 billion by 2019.

With Dasherkandi plant, sewage waste of Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, Bashun-dhara, Niketan, Mohakhali DOHS, Tejgaon, Eskaton, Kalabagan, Hatir-jheel, and a part of Dhanmondi will be covered. A feasibility study being conducted in Uttara and Mirpur is expected to be completed by December this year.

Dhaka WASA can now provide sewerage service to 30 per cent areas of Dhaka city. It has also formulated a sewerage master plan to ensure proper service.
