The Election Commission (EC) has decided to put off the results of three constituencies in the 13th National Parliament Election, held on Thursday. The seats are Sherpur-2, Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4, reports BSS.

The results were postponed due to legal issues of the winning candidates, said Md. Shahidul Islam, senior assistant secretary of the EC Secretariat.

The EC in separate notification said it is legally obligated to withhold the publication of results until the final disposal of the relevant cases.

Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on February 3 allowed Mohammad Aslam Chowdhury, a candidate of Constituency 281 (Chattogram-4), to contest in the poll, disposing a writ petition filed by him with the High Court Division. However, the court said the result of the election would remain suspended until the case is finally settled.

Responding to a writ petition of Sarwar Alamgir, a candidate of Constituency 279 (Chattogram-2), the Appellate Division delivered the similar order allowing him to contest in the election, but holding the result until the final disposal of the case.

The Appellate Division accepted writ petition of Mohammad Fahim Chowdhury, a candidate of Constituency 114 (Sherpur-2), allowing him to contest in the election. However, final result would be announced subject to the disposal of the pending case.
