The Editors' Council has condemned declaration of three journalists, including two of its members, 'personae non gratae' at the Central Shaheed Minar by some organisations.
Condemning the unexpected act Thursday, the Council at a meeting also expressed the hope that all concerned should refrain from taking such steps, said a statement signed by the Council's President and Daily Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar.
The statement also mentioned that two members of the council -- New Age Editor Nurul Kabir and Manab Zamin Chief Editor Matiur Rahman - expressed their responsible and independent views in TV talk shows and also in their respective newspapers.
"The editors believe that any attempt to hinder freedom of expression will create an obstacle to democratic practice in the country," it said.
The Council's condemnation and concern came after some organisations recently declared three journalists including New Age Editor Nurul Kabir and Manab Zamin Chief Editor Matiur Rahman personae non gratae at the Central Shaheed Minar.
