Editors' Council forms new body for two yrs

The Sampadak Parishad (Editors' Council) has formed its new executive committee.
The new committee, formed in a meeting held on Sunday at The Daily Star Centre in the capital, includes five office-bearers and four executive committee members.
The office-bearers are Mahfuz Anam (editor and publisher of The Daily Star) -- president, Tasmima Hossain (editor of Ittefaq)-vice-president, Naem Nizam (editor, Bangladesh Protidin)-general secretary, Dewan Hanif Mahmud (editor and publisher of Bonik Barta)-assistant general secretary, and Mustafiz Shafi (acting editor, Shamakal)-treasurer.
The executive committee members are Editor-in-chief of Manabzamin Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, Editor of Bhorer Kagoj Shymal Dutta, Acting Editor of Jugantor Saiful Alam and Dainik Azadi Editor MA Malek.
The tenure of the new executive committee will be for two years-from October 01, 2019, to September 30, 2021.
Sampadak Parishad was founded in 2013 to play an active role in protecting press freedom, developing professional journalism and strengthening the editorial institution. The founding president of Sampadak Parishad was former editor of the Daily Samakal Golam Sarwar, who passed away in 2018.
The Parishad also decided to launch a website of the institution, recruit new members and organise seminars and events on press freedom and other journalism related issues. The council plans to hold a seminar in the coming months on strengthening the future of the print media and related challenges.
It was also decided that the Prishad will expand its activities and membership at the district level, says a press release.
