Edn sector makes epoch-making achievements, claims Nahid

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said Tuesday that the country's education sector made epoch-making achievements in the last five and a half years, reports BSS.

"Numerical progress in many indexes of education had earned appreciation at home and abroad. Now the biggest challenges is to improving standard of education," he said this while delivering his inaugural speech as the chief guest at a workshop styled "Secondary Education Sector Investment Programme (SESIP)" at NAEM auditorium in the city.

The 10-year programme, aimed at improving standard of secondary education, is being implemented with joint funding by the government and Asian Development Bank (ADB) from January 2014 to 2023.

Presided over by SESIP Project Director and Department of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Director General Prof Fahima Khatun, the function was also addressed by Education Secretary Dr Mohammad Sadiq, ADB Deputy Country Director Oleg Tankenoznkav and SESIP Joint Programme Director Ratan Kumar Roy, said an official release.

The minister hoped that implementation of SESIP would help immensely to improve quality of education.

He stressed the need for proper use of the project money and urged all to work with transparency and accountability.

The amount of ADB assistance for SESIP is US$ 500 million while the government is providing US$ 16.3 million.
