Eid journey to be comfortable this year, assures Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader assured that the journey of Eid holidaymakers would be comfortable this time than previous occasions, reports UNB.
"The ministry remains alert to ensure a comfortable journey. Necessary directives have been given to repair the roads damaged by rain. Hopefully, this year's Eid journey will be comfortable than previous years," he said in a post on his verified Facebook account on Monday.
Quader, also Awami League general secretary, said there will be no tailback on highways during the Eid rush. "Only heavy rain may slow down the speed of vehicles."
He also urged all not to create panic about roads spreading misleading information.
Describing government's successes in the transport sector, the minister said work on the country's first-ever expressway from Postagola to Bhanga and dream project, Metro Rail, is going on in full swing.
"Thirty per cent work on the first phase of Dhaka Elevated Expressway has been completed."
He said around 55 per cent work on the Padma Multipurpose Bridge, including installation of four spans, have been done.
Work on the Jashore-Jhenidah and Jashore-Magura roads has already been completed while construction of Sylhet-Companiganj and Tekerhat-Bakerganj roads is in progress, he said.
Quader said two lanes of the railway overpass on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Feni have already been opened to traffic and work on the entire overpass will be finished by June 15.
By December, work on the Kanchpur Bridge-2, Meghna Bridge-2 and Gomti Bridge-2 will be completed, he said.
