Eight persons killed in separate incidents

Eight persons were killed and many others injured in separate incidents in different places of the country during the last two days, report agencies.
In Bagerhat, three people were killed and two others injured in separate incidents in Chitalmari and Mollahat Upazilas Friday.
In Chitalmari, a sexagenarian man was killed and two others were injured in lightning at Shibpur village Friday noon.
The police said Abdus Sattar, Imam of a local mosque, died on the spot and his two companions Imdadul Huq and Babul were critically injured when a thunderbolt struck them while they were working in a cropland at noon.
In another incident, two children drowned in a pond near Mollahat Upazila health complex.
The two ill-fated victims were identified as Hridoy, son of Rabiul Islam, and Sakib, son of Soleman Sheikh, of the area.
Witnesses said while playing they slipped into the pond adjacent to their house and drowned at about 7:00 pm.
In Kurigram, A female schoolteacher was killed and a rickshaw-puller injured in a tragic road accident at Dasherhat in Sadar Upazila on the Kurigram-Rangpur Road.
The deceased was identified as Farida of Palashbari village on the outskirts of the district town and also a teacher of the local Balakura Primary School.
Witnesses said while going to her house from the school a Rangpur-bound truck rammed into her rickshaw at about 3:00 pm. Farida died on the spot.
In Thakurgaon, a woman was killed allegedly by her daughter-in-law at Gogor village in Ranisangkail Upazila Friday evening.
Local people said Farida Begum, wife of Montaz Ali, hit her mother-in-law Aklima with a spade during a quarrel leaving her dead on the spot. On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested Farida. A murder case was filed.
In Rangpur,three persons were killed and 15 others injured in separate road accidents in Syedpur and Kaliganj Upazilas of Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat districts Friday.
The sources said a man died on the spot and 13 others injured when a pickup van and a passenger minibus collided head-on at Sonapukur Rabeya More on the Syedpur-Dinajpur Highway under Syedpur Upazila in Nilphamari Friday.
Motorcyclist Birendra Nath of village Khalisha Barajan was killed and his two co-riders were seriously inured when a minibus hit their motorcycle from the opposite direction at Chapartol point on the Patgram-Rangpur road in Kaliganj Upazila in Lalmonirhat Friday.
