The police Wednesday picked up eight people, including a friend of the sub-inspector shot dead in the city's Dholaikhal area Tuesday, for interrogation, the chief investigator said.
Three unknown gunmen killed Gautam Roy, the second officer of Bangsal police station, past midnight on Lalmohan Shah Street in Sutrapur as he was returning home along with two of his friends.
Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Jalal Uddin told the FE that they have detained eight people for questioning in connection with the murder. "Azam, who accompanied Roy at the time of the incident, has also been nabbed," he said.
Roy's friend Mohammad Shamim also received bullet injuries during the shooting incident but Azam survived the attack unscathed.
The detainees include a scrap metal trader and two security guards of Mohiuddin Market where the incident took place.
