Ekushey Padak winning writer Rashid Haider died due to old age complications in the city on Tuesday. He was 80, reports UNB.

He breathed his last at his residence at around 08:30 am.

President Abdul Hamid on Tueaday expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of writer Rashid Haider.

In a condolence message, the President said that the research work done by Rashid Haider on the Liberation War will inspire the next generation to find out the nature of the War of Independence.

Hamid said Haider will be remembered for his research and literary work.

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of Rashid Haider.

In a condolence message, the PM said Rashid Haider will be remembered for his research works on the great Liberation War and his contributions to the Bengali literature.

Sheikh Hasina wished salvation of his departed soul and expressed deep sympathy for his bereaved family members.

The writer was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2014 and Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1984.
