An elderly man took his own life in Khathalbagan area under Kolabagan police station of the capital on Wednesday.
The deceased identified as Ershad Anwar (55) hanged himself with the ventilator of the washroom of their rented house at Khatalbagan in the morning. He hailed from Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur.
Mahmud Anwar, elder brother of the deceased, told the media that he (the victim) had been physically ill for long time and passed his time mostly in seclusion.
He entered the washroom in the morning and stayed there for quite a long time and did not respond to the calls of the family members. Later he was rescued by breaking open the washroom's door.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where attending doctors pronounced him dead at around 10:30am. A case was filed in this connection.
