Election fever grips DU as students leave campus to vote

With the 13th national election just two days away, election fever has gripped Dhaka University (DU) as students begin leaving the campus to return to their home constituencies to cast their votes, reflecting strong enthusiasm among young voters. For many DU students, the upcoming election will mark their first opportunity to cast a vote.

As a result, a large number of students have left the campus to return to their home constituencies.

While many teachers and staff members are registered to vote in Dhaka, students are registered across constituencies throughout the country.

To facilitate participation in the election and the national referendum scheduled for February 12, the authorities declared holidays on February 11 and 12.

All classes on February 9 and 10 were shifted online, while exams scheduled for February 10 were postponed.

However, some students expressed dissatisfaction with the limited break. On February 7, a group of DU students staged a protest rally demanding a seven-day holiday.

Many students said they are determined to return home to vote, describing participation in the election as a civic duty.

Meanwhile, student wings of major political parties have intensified their activities. Leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal have been assigned constituency-based responsibilities to campaign for BNP and alliance candidates, with many already returning to their home districts.

Several elected Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) leaders have travelled to different districts to attend election rallies.
