Eminent economist of the subcontinent, Ashok Mitra, died at a private nursing home of Kolkata on Tuesday morning, says a press release.
Bangladesh Economic Association expressed its deep shock at the demise of Ashok Mitra and prayed for the salvation of his departed soul.
Ashok, was the first finance minister in the Left front government of West Bengal from 1977 to 1987.
Besides serving the State Government, Ashok Mitra also worked with the Central Government as Chief Economic Adviser and was a member of the Rajya Sabha.
A graduate from the Dhaka University in Economics, Mitra was the chief minister during the regime of Indra Gandhi.
