Speakers at a seminar in the city Thursday stressed the need for empowering adolescent girls through literacy and skill so they can participate in and contribute to the country's development.
Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) and Nari Moitree (NM) jointly organised the seminar at the DAM Auditorium.
The seminar was aimed at sharing experience on a UNESCO-funded project on "Empowering Adolescent Girls to Become the Agents of Social Transformation (EAST)".
DAM President Kazi Rafiqul Alam said: "Under the project, disadvantaged adolescent girls of selected areas were provided with health and reproductive health lessons, taught everyday science and effective communication means, livelihood training apart from literacy. These girls have now become capable of not only changing their lives, but can contribute to the society and country's development as well".
UNESCO Dhaka Programme Specialist Hassan Keynan was present on the occasion as the chief guest. He lauded the DAM and the NM's efforts in empowering adolescent girls through imparting literacy and livelihood skills.— Press release
