Engineer drowned in Kushiara river

SYLHET, Sept 19 (UNB): Engineer of Public Health Engineering Department under Jakiganj Upazila Jotindra Kumar Biswas drowned in boat capsize in Kushiara River while carrying relief goods for the flood victims Tuesday.
Local people said Biswas and volunteers were going to distribute relief goods by a boat and at one stage caught by a storm it sank at Hatidhar area in the afternoon.
Another report said, Abul Kalam (50), Imam of Sunampur central mosque in Golapganj Upazila and teacher of Sunampur Madrasah, remained missing as a boat carrying him capsized in Kushiara River Tuesday.
In another incident, No 3 Dighirpar UP chairman Altaf Hossain while taking 28 sacks of relief rice by a boat from Kanaighat Upazila headquarters to the flood victims the overloaded boat suddenly sank in Surma River at Bastarghat Tuesday.
Another report from Sylhet adds: Two minor girls drowned in floodwater at Charkhai Bazar under Bianibazar Upazila Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Sanjita Helal Tumpa (7), daughter of a local schoolteacher Helal Uddin and their domestic help Shirin Akhter (14).
