Ensure fair price of agro-products, says President at SAU convocation

SYLHET, Feb 15 (UNB): President Abdul Hamid put emphasis on ensuring fair price of agricultural products to continue the ongoing development trend in country's agriculture sector.
He also asked the authority concerned of agricultural and veterinary universities to conduct research works keeping in mind the mass people's food demand and security by 2100.
The President was addressing the first convocation of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) on the campus here on Thursday.
"To maintain this trend of agricultural development, we must ensure fair prices of agricultural products at the peasant level.
Apart from this, it is necessary to create skilled human resources as well as to develop skilled manpower in the preservation and diversification of perishable products.
Agricultural universities will have to play a leading role in this regard," Abdul Hamid said.
Referring to tremendous development in country's agricultural sector, the President, also Chancellor of the University, lauded the contribution of all concerned, including the incumbent government, experts, researchers, agriculturists and farmers for inventing technology-based environment-friendly agricultural products.
He asked the newly graduated students for working together to ensure food and nutrition security.
"Play a leading role to rebuild a 'Sonar Bangla', the long-cherished dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," he said.
President Abdul Hamid mentioned that the greater Sylhet region is a beautiful natural landscape having huge potential areas and stressed for increasing the production by optimum utilisiation of sustainable agri-technologies here." Huge potentials are available in water bodies, fertile land and vast open fields here.
Former governor of Bangladesh Bank and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of East West University, Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin addressed the programme as the convocation speaker, while Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan and Vice-Chancellor of the SAU Prof Dr M Golam Shahi Alam also spoke on the occasion.
BSS adds: President M Abdul Hamid visited the shrines of two eminent Muslim saints - Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shahporan (R) -- as he came here on a day-long tour to attend the first convocation of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU).
President Hamid arrived at Osmani International Airport by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at about 2 pm and from there he went to the mazar of Hazrat Shahjalal (R). He offered fateha and munajat there.
Later, the President also offered fateha and munajat at the mazar of Hazrat Shah Paran (R).
