CHATTOGRAM, Dec 03: Executive Chairman of Power and Participation Research Centre Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, also a former adviser to a caretaker government, has called for ensuring security of journalists to help establish a democratic trend the country has been envisioning.

"Insecurity of journalists is hampering freedom of the press. Recent abduction incident of journalist Golam Sarwar in Chattogram is a glaring example of insecurity for journalists in Bangladesh," Dr Hossain Zillur said while addressing a press conference on security of journalists at Chattogram Press Club in the city on Thursday morning.

"The government and the state must ensure security of journalists as well as freedom of the press to help uphold the practice of democracy," said the economist and social thinker.

Besides, the newspaper and media owners should also ensure security of journalists, he added.

"We all are concerned over the incident of abduction of journalist Golam Sarwar. Such type of incidents only hamper security of journalists," he said.
