Swedish government Thursday assured Bangladesh of providing financial assistance to its Multi-donor fund to combat climate change impacts, reports BSS.
Bangladesh will get US$ 20 million from the Multi-donor Climate Fund, a multilateral financial mechanism to support Bangladesh to take and implement plans for facing climate change impacts, Swedish ambassador to Bangladesh Britt F Hagstrom said in a meeting with State Minister for Environment and Forest Advocate Mostafizur Rahman at his office in the city.
Britt F Hagstorm, also Local EU President, led a four-member European Commission delegation which called on the minister to share the EU's latest position on climate change issues prior to the next meeting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Bonn in June.
Other members of the delegation were Ambassador of Spain Arturo Pervez, First secretary of the Delegation of the European Commission to Bangladesh Koen Duchateau and Programme officer of Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) Johan Willert.
Secretary Dr Mihir Kanti Majumder and senior officials of the ministry were present.
Britt Hagstrom told the minister that international community intensely felt the problem of Bangladesh with regards to climate change. Enhanced financial support for adaptation was a priority to help developing countries like Bangladesh, she said.
