The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) has expressed optimism about voter turnout and public enthusiasm during the voting day on Thursday at the national election.
Speaking to journalists after visiting the Curzon Hall polling centre at the University of Dhaka, EU EOM Chief Observer Ivars Ijabs said the mission views the turnout and voter interest as positive.
He said the EU hopes for an inclusive and credible election. The mission is receiving regular updates and reports online from its observers deployed across the country, he added.
Ijabs also stated that the EU EOM is working in a completely neutral manner and is not involved in any political process. Their sole responsibility is to observe and assess the overall electoral process.
He noted that Bangladeshi citizens are clearly showing interest in participating in the vote, and voters also expect the election to be inclusive and trustworthy.
The EU Election Observation Mission will release a preliminary report on Saturday, which will present an overall assessment of the election management and the situation on the ground.
