FE Report

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman Iqbal Mahmood said on Saturday the commission can ensure punishment in all its cases through creating evidential value of a case by submitting correct evidences before the court.

"If evidential value of a case is created through presenting accurate information and proof before the court, the commission's theoretical expectation of ensuring cent per cent punishment in the cases can come to a reality," he said.

The ACC chief was addressing a workshop arranged for its public prosecutors of Dhaka-2, Mymensingh, Tangail and Faridpur offices held at the ACC headquarters in the city.

Mentioning that the punishment rate of the cases filed by the commission has raised to 70 per cent recently from 37 per cent, he said the success came as the commission approves charge sheets of the cases as per required and provable documents.

Mr Iqbal said the commission will be successful in preventing corruption if the actual corrupts face penalty following strong legal proceedings taken by ACC lawyers.

Taking about lobbying against the graft cases filed by ACC, he said the commission headquarters is free of lobbyist now as they know that there will be no benefit of lobbying here (ACC).

He also said harassing people through sending fake notices and filing false cases have also disappeared which is an achievement of the anti-graft body.

ACC director general (legal) Md Moidul Islam, director (prosecution) Sheikh Faruk Hossain and deputy director (prosecution) Moniruzzaman Khan were also present at the workshop.
