Ex-AmCham president Forrest Cookson dies

Forrest E Cookson, the former president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham), died at the age of 92, reports bdnews24.com.

He passed away on Tuesday night while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in Dhaka, AmCham confirmed in a statement.

Born on April 26, 1934, in the United States, Cookson first came to Bangladesh in the mid-1980s to contribute to a financial sector reform initiative.

He also served as a consultant to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, and led the Foreign Investors' Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

He worked as a consultant to the Bangladesh Bank and played a role in the Financial Sector Reform Programme during the 1990s.

Cookson earned a PhD in economics from Georgetown University in 1961, and later taught there.

AmCham in a condolence message said it "remains deeply grateful for his invaluable contributions and will remember him with profound respect".
