The government has dismissed former Rapid Action Battalion-8 additional superintendent of police and acting company commander Md Masudur Rahman Monir after finding him guilty of unauthorised absence, misconduct and desertion.
In this regard, the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday issued a gazette notification signed by Senior Secretary Manzur Murshed Chowdhury.
According to the notification, Masudur had remained absent from duty without permission since November 13, 2024.
Attempts to contact him failed on the day as both of his personal and official mobile phones were found switched off.
The RAB-8 commanding officer informed the RAB headquarters of the matter the same day.
A search into his office later found a 10-day leave application dated November 12, 2024.
He also sent a four-week medical leave application by post along with a medical prescription.
However, none of the two applications was approved as they did not comply with service rules.
After he remained absent without authorisation for more than 60 days, the authorities initiated departmental proceedings against him on March 17, 2025.
A departmental case was filed on June 22 that year on charges of misconduct and desertion, and a show-cause notice was served. He did not respond.
An inquiry officer subsequently submitted a report on January 8, 2026, finding the allegations proved. A second show-cause notice proposing his dismissal also went unanswered.
Following a review of the inquiry report and other relevant documents, the authorities decided to remove him from job. The Bangladesh Public Service Commission also endorsed the decision.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin approved the dismissal on July 13, 2026.
Masudur has been removed from service with effect from November 13, 2024, the date on which he deserted his post, said the ministry's notification.
