A Dhaka court placed Wednesday Dr MA Hannan Feroz, former vice-chancellor (VC) of Stamford University Bangladesh, on a six-day remand in connection with the gun attack on former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Enamul Haque Shamim, reports UNB.
Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibul Haque passed the order when Detective Branch of police Inspector Shamsuddin Saleh Ahmed Chowdhury, also investigation officer (IO) of a case filed in this connection, produced him before the court seeking 10 days' remand.
Earlier in the day, plain-clothes police arrested Dr Hannan Feroz, also incumbent chairman of the university's Trustee Board, from the city's Dhanmondi area in the early hours of Wednesday for his alleged involvement in the gun attack on the former BCL chief.
A team of DB arrested Dr Hannan from his residence, said Deputy Commissioner (Public Relations) Masudur Rahman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
On June 19, Enamul Haque Shamim, also a member of the Awami League's working committee, came under the gun attack by a group of miscreants in front of Stamford University at Dhanmondi.
On July 8, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and DB arrested seven people, including two masterminds, from the capital, Rajbari and Mymensingh for their alleged involvement in the gun attack.
