Expanded area of Bogra Pourashava deprived from civic benefits

BOGRA, Oct 31: Residents of the expanded area of Bogra Pourashava were being deprived of civic benefits such as communication, health and electricity.
According to a gazette notification of October 12, 2006, Bogra Pourashava has expanded nearly four times from its previous area by October 19, 2006. Now, more than a year has passed but people of those expanded area have still not received any civic benefit.
Before expansion the Pourashava had an area of 16.76 sq km. An additional 54.80 sq km of Bogra Sadar Upazila and Shajahanpur Upazila were added to it according to the gazette notification of October 12, 2006.
Now the total area of Bogra Pourashava is 71.56 square km. The inhabitants of newly included area continue to plead with the pourashava authority to give them some basic facilities like electricity, health and communication. But due to scarcity of funds the Pourashava authorities are unable to provide any service to them.
The Bogra Pourashava authorities say that after expansion they have not received any fund for development work in the expanded area. For example, in the last flood some roads of Pourashava were damaged and nearly Tk 100 million is required for repairing the roads. But till now they have received no money for the repair work.
Acting Chairman of Bogra Pourashava Sayed Anwarul Islam Babla told this correspondent that unless they receive funds for development, it will not be possible to provide any further service to the people of the extended area.
