SYLHET, July 10 (UNB): Passengers of a bus, including an expatriate living in the United Kingdom, lost their cash and valuables as highwaymen swooped on the night coach at Shibpur in Narsingdi on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway Monday night.
Witnesses said eight bandits in the guise of passengers boarded the bus of Shohagh Paribahan from Dhaka at about 12:45 am.
As the bus reached Shibpur around 2:30 am, the robbers seized control of the bus and looted the cash, gold ornaments, cell-phone sets and other valuables from the passengers at gunpoint.
Arif Rabbani, a Bangladeshi-born British citizen, lost 25,000 Pound, Tk 30,000 and his British passport during the robbery.
The passengers told journalists they could not understand how the bandits boarded the bus with arms as the bus authorities checked all the passengers with a metal detector before they got into it.
