Experts for distribution of hybrid seeds among flood-hit farmers

Experts at a workshop in the city called for distribution of hybrid seeds among the flood affected farmers of the country, reports BSS.
They were speaking at a workshop of the dealers and distributors of BRAC "Shufola" Seed from across the country Saturday.
Organised by BRAC Seed Enterprise, the workshop was held at the BRAC Centre Inn.
The speakers highlighted the necessity for producing and distributing hybrid seeds among the affected farmers for better yield with the receding of the devastating flood waters. Presided over by Aminul Alam, Deputy Executive Director, BRAC, the workshop was attended by Mahbub Hossain, Executive Director, BRAC as the chief-guest.
Mahbub underlined the need for producing good quality seeds in order to compensate food shortage and cut import of food grains and seeds in the country. Keeping the current situation in mind, he called upon the dealers to distribute seeds at a lower margin to the farmers.
Speaking on the occasion Anwarul Faruk, Director General, Seed Wing, Ministry of Agriculture, reassured the participants that together with private efforts of BRAC and others, the apprehension of low productivity after the flood can be overcome.
Besides, Abdus Salam, Director (Research), Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, Shudhir Chandra Nath, Programme Manager, Agro Marketing, BRAC and Azizul Huq, Distributor, Chuadanga region also spoke on the occasion.
Experts from seed research, production and marketing division made presentations on varieties of hybrid rice, maize and vegetable seeds available in the market and their distribution. About 100 participants from all over the country attended the workshop.
