Experts for using ICT to improve quality of edn

A good progress has been made in terms of using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) during the last couple of years to achieve the status of knowledge-based middle income and prosperous country, said officials and educationists, reports BSS.
Application of ICT should be expanded in the education sector aiming to improve overall quality of education, they added.
A total of 23,500 multimedia classrooms have been set up across the country at the primary and secondary level schools to make learning process easy and understandable.
The work for setting up technology-based multimedia classrooms with modern teaching method at 23,500 primary and secondary schools has been completed, an official of the project- ICT for Education in Secondary and Higher Secondary Level- told the news agency.
A teacher from each of the 23,500 educational institutions was given training to develop subject-wise digital content, he said adding the project has introduced multimedia classrooms to make classroom joyful, effective and participatory. 'The Ministry of Education has introduced a good number of online based services to bring  dynamism in the education sector. The key online services in the education sector are e- text book, digital library, digital content development through web portal, online admission system and online fees payment'.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) Digital Library (UDL) has been established under the scope of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project.
The UGC signed contract with three online publishers- ACM Publication, Emerald and JSTOR. A total of 32 public and private universities have become members of UDL and teachers and students of these universities have easy access to the online journals, proceedings, magazines, e- books and other publications of the three publishers.
