Adviser for Agriculture and Water Resources and leader of Bangladesh delegation to the 35th special session of FAO, Dr CS Karim, Saturday met FAO Director General Dr Jacques Diouf here on the sideline of the session, reports BSS from Rome.
During the meeting, Dr Karim appreciated the role of the FAO in addressing the challenges of global food security.
He expressed the hope that a renewed and revitalised FAO would be able to cope with the emerging challenges including those emanating from climate change.
The FAO Director General commended the achievements of Bangladesh in enhancing food production in recent months in the face of adverse conditions.
He also assured Dr Karim of continued FAO support to bolster the efforts of Bangladesh in the coming months.
Dr Diouf said that the Bangladesh experience and expertise were appreciated and that it was in a position to share this with others in facilitating the sustainable food security.
Meanwhile, the Adviser addressed the inaugural ceremony of the 35th Special Session of the FAO Conference.
The special session was convened to review the reform of FAO so that the organisation can address the challenges of global food security more effectively and efficiently. Ministers from a large number of member countries were attending the Conference.
