Farmers demonstrate in Sherpur demanding fertiliser supply

SHERPUR, Oct 7 (UNB) : Around 300 farmers demonstrated in front of the local Agriculture Extension Department (AED) at Khamarbari in the district town and locked its office for three hours Sunday, demanding immediate supply of fertiliser.
Witnesses said, the agitated farmers also confined the officers and employees of the agriculture office for three hours inside it from 12 noon to 3pm to realise their demand.
On information, a joint force team went to the spot, and brought the situation under control on the assurance that fertiliser would be provided to the farmers within the next two days.
Farmers alleged that they were not getting fertiliser from its dealers or agriculture office, while they now badly need the input following two spells of flood.
