MANIKGANJ, Dec 27 (UNB/bdnews24.com): Ferry services on the Daulatdia-Paturia route in the Padma river resumed early Saturday after a nine-hour disruption due to dense fog.

Bidyut Kumar Saha, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha ghat, said ferry services as well as plying of other water vessels came to a halt at 8.00pm on Friday night due to blurred visibility caused by dense fog.

Four ferries with a large number of vehicles and passengers were kept anchored at Daulatdia and five ferries at Paturia.

Besides, seven ferries remained stopped in the middle of the Padma since Friday night.

Passengers suffered as a good number of vehicles were kept waiting on both sides of the river for crossing.

Ferry services on the important route resumed about 5 am as fog started disappearing before the sunrise.

Dense fog also disrupted flight schedules at Chittagong's Shah Amanat International Airport.

Two international flights landed at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport instead of Chittagong since 8:15am Friday. Besides, two domestic flights arrived behind schedule.

But the situation returned to normal after the fog started clearing around 10am, said Chittagong airport Civil Aviation Manager Wing Commander Nur-e-Alam.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Abu Dhabi was scheduled to land at the Shah Amanat airport at 8:20am, while an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah was to touch down at 9am, he said.

"The two flights landed in Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport instead of Shah Amanat Airport because of the dense fog."

Besides, two domestic flights arrived late at the Chittagong airport, he said.

Chittagong Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Tareq Ahmed (immigration) said a NovoAir flight deferred its take off from Dhaka from 8:50am to 9:50am because of low visibility. An US-Bangla Airlines flight landed one hour behind schedule at 9am at the Shah Amanat.

However, the operations of flights at Shah Amanat International Airport here came back to normal around 10 am following disappearance of fog.
