Fire guts 40 shops in Faridpur mkt

FARIDPUR, Mar 25: At least 40 shops were burnt to ashes at the 'juta potti' in Kanaipur Bazar of Faridpur Sadar upazila.

The incident took place at around 9:30 pm on Tuesday night.

Fire Service sources said the fire could have been triggered by an electric short circuit. About 40 to 42 business shops were destroyed in the fire, they said.

Some of them are shoe shops, cosmetics shops, hardware stores, electronics shops, pharmaceuticals stores and rice godowns.

Traders claim that goods worth Tk 15 million were destroyed in the fire.

Five Fire Service units of Faridpur Sadar, Madhukhali and Saltha upazila reached the spot immediately on receiving the news of the fire at night.

Fire Service members, Ansar VDP and local people worked tirelessly to control the fire.

Kanaipur union council chairman Fakir Md. Belayet Hossain said, "Goods worth Tk 15 million were destroyed."
