First-ever food carnival kicks off tomorrow

The much-anticipated 'Safe Food Carnival 2024' is going to kick off in the country for the first time tomorrow (Thursday), promising unique culinary delights for foodies.

The three-day carnival will commence at the Bangabandhu International Convention Centre in the capital.

Hosted by the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA), the event will showcase an array of traditional and diverse foods alongside crafts, highlighting the country's rich culinary heritage.

BFSA chairman Md Abdul Qayyum Sarkar announced the event during a press conference in the city on Tuesday, emphasising the importance of food safety and collaboration among food establishments.

Inaugurated by food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, the carnival will welcome visitors from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm daily, with free entry for all.

The carnival's agenda includes regional debate, cultural performance, children's drawing competition, live culinary demonstration and seminar on food safety management.

CARNIVAL PARTICIPANTS

Large industries: Akiz, Pran, Coca-Cola, Finley, Bengal Meat, Unilever, Nestlé, Abul Khair and Square.

Confectioneries: Bonoful, Wellfood, Premium Sweets, Bikrampur Sweets, Banalata Sweets, Bhagyakul, Bread & Beyond, Sumi's Hot Cakes and Nani.

Five-star hotels: Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Hotel InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Crown Plaza, Dhaka Regency and Hotel Amari.

Food makers, restaurants and fast-food outlets: Shalik of Cox's Bazar, Manda of Muktagacha, Kalai of Rajshahi, Matribhandar of Cumilla, Yoghurt of Bogra, Mezban of Chittagong, KFC, Pizza Hut, Domino's, Harfi, Burger King, Sultan's Dine and Kacchi Bhai.

Notable highlights on February 09 include a live pizza exhibition by Domino's Pizza and celebrity messages, including actor and lawmaker Ferdous', on food safety.

The grand finale on February 10 will feature a pitha (traditional cakes) competition, cultural performance, cuisine expo and concluding programme.

Housing and public works minister Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury will be present there.

Additionally, small and medium enterprises will offer a variety of culinary delights, according to the BFSA.
