Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Sharful Alam and four other bureaucrats face contempt of court charges, as they gave promotion to nine District Fisheries Officers "flouting" the High Court's stay order over a pending writ petition, reports UNB.
The four other contemnors are Shamsul Kibria, joint secretary of Fisheries and Livestock, its acting Director General Abdul Khaleq, ex- Director General Rafiqul Islam and senior assistant secretary Sabbir Husain.
A High Court (HC) division bench comprising Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and Justice M Rezaul Huq Sunday admitted for hearing the contempt petition moved by Manzill Murshid, the counsel for the writ petitioners.
"The contempt petition will come up on the daily cause list for hearing today (Monday)," said the counsel.
According to the contempt petition, a HC division bench, after hearing both sides upon a writ petition on January 5, issued a rule upon the Fisheries and Livestock secretary and three other respondents and directed them to stop for a month the promotions to the post of nine District Livestock Officers.
But the respondents "acting fraud upon the court" issued the promotion notification through backdated signing, it added.
