BENAPOLE, Apr 15: Five trucks carrying bleaching powder from India were burnt to ashes in a devastating fire at Benapole port early Friday. Witnesses and port security guards said the Indian trucks caught fire suddenly at the last moment of Sehri.
Five Indian trucks loaded with bleaching powder were burnt at Shed No. 38 in the port before fire fighters arrived there, they added.
Benapole Port Deputy Director Mamun Tarafdar said the consignment of bleaching powder was imported from India on Wednesday night.
Excessive heat might have caused the fire, he said, adding that the cause of the fire and the extent of loss have not yet been determined.
On information, three fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
Locals claimed that the fire caused a massive damage as fire-fighters reached the spot late. Nearly five months ago, an Indian truck carrying bleaching powder was also burnt in a fire at the port.
