Five people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, including the city, and Jessore districts on Friday, reports UNB.
In the capital, three people, including two drivers, were killed as a pickup and a truck collided at Banani in the city early on Friday morning. The victims were named as truck driver Arif, his helper Shamin and pickup driver Mizanur Rahman.
Police, quoting witnesses, said the accident took place near the Army Stadium on the New Airport Road of Banani at about 5:30am when the Shahjalal Airport-bound pickup collided with the Kakoli-bound truck after hitting the road divider as the driver of the pickup lost control over its steering.
Six people of both the vehicles were fatally injured. They were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where three of them-Arif, Shamim and Mizanur-were declared dead, said SI Ataur Rahman of Banani Police Station.
In Keraniganj on the outskirts of the capital, a man was killed and another injured as a truck crashed into a motorcycle in front of local Jubo League office in the Kadamtali area Friday noon.
The deceased was identified as Uzzal, 30, son of Kalu Miah of the Bangshal area in the capital.
In Jessore, a woman was killed and her son injured as a truck hit them on the Jessore-Jhenidah road in the Churamonkathi Bazar area of the district town Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Nur Jahan Begum, 40, wife of Jahirul Islam of Churamonkathi village.
The accident took place as the soil-laden truck hit them in front of the Brac office while they were going to the bazaar around 8am, leaving them injured, said Sikder Akkas Ali, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
