Five killed, three injured in road mishaps

SATKHIRA, July 17 (UNB): Five people were killed and three others injured as a microbus plunged into a roadside ditch at Tala Upazila on Satkhira-Khulna highway early Tuesday.
Local sources said the accident took place at Dholbaria crossing at about 4:3 am as the driver lost control over steering, killing five people on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Aziz (45) and Manirul Islam (38) of Kaliganj Upazila of the district, Ehsanul Haq (40) of Ashasuni Upazila, Abu Syed (42) of Khulna and Manjurul Islam (44) of Keraniganj of Dhaka district.
The injured were admitted to Sadar Hospital.
Local people said, the followers of Pir Shah Mohammad Sadeq, in a microbus, were going to Gunagorkati at Ashasuni Upazila from Jessore to attend the Janaza of the Pir, who died recently, when the tragedy struck them.
