Five people died of dengue in the last 24 hours until Friday morning throughout Bangladesh, report agencies.
Another 466 dengue patients were hospitalised in the same period, according to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
As many as 242 were admitted to hospital in the capital among the new dengue patients.
In addition, 92 were hospitalised in Dhaka Division, 20 in Mymensingh Division, 50 in Chattogram Division, 43 in Khulna Division, nine in Rajshahi Division, one in Rangpur Division, three in Sylhet Division, and six in Barishal Division.
With the new counts, the number of hospitalised dengue patients has reached 69,922 this year. A total of 342 people died among them.
As many as 4,287 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country. They include 1,891 in the capital and 2,396 outside Dhaka.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. The highest 1,705 people also died of the disease that year.
