Flood related death toll rises to 984

The death toll from snakebite, drowning, diarrhoea and respiratory diseases rose to 984 until Thursday since the country-experienced flood from July, reports UNB.
According to statistics provided by the Health Department, of the total deaths, 837 were caused by drowning, 94 by snakebite, 29 due to diarrhoea and 24 from respiratory diseases.
It said a total of 178,684 people have been affected by diarrhoea so far.
Information received from the Food and Disaster Management Ministry showed that over 1.33 crore people in 263 upazilas of 46 districts were affected by the ravaging floods that also damaged 81,817 houses completely and 961,420 others partially.
Crops on 890,898 acres of land hand damaged completely and on 1,335,382 acres partially.
Some 3,705 kilograms of roads had been damaged completely while 27,125 kilograms partially.
The flood also damaged 563 educational institutions completely and 8,031 others partially, and 88 kilometre of dams completely and 1,002 partially.
Besides, 360 bridges and culverts were damaged completely while 1,692 others partially by the flooding.
A total of 61,510 people affected by the floods took refuge in 167 shelters.
Various relief goods from the Chief Adviser's Relief Fund and the Food and Disaster Management Ministry continued to be sent for the flood-affected people across the country.
A total of 133,720 tonnes of rice have been allocated for the VGF programme launched in 41 districts. Under the programme that will continue up to December this year, some 10 kilograms of rice per month would be distributed among 2,981,500 families.
