Floods damage Tk 1.41b crops, vegs in Tangail

Paddy, vegetables field go under water

TANGAIL, Aug 22: Agricultural crops and vegetables worth about about Tk 1.41 billion (141 crores) have already been damaged in Tangail due to the current floods, caused by the rolling down of flood waters and rain, officials said.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Tangail source said that crops on 13,892 hectares of land of 107391farmers have been damaged causing an estimated loss of Tk 1.41 billion (141 crores) and 2.5 million (25 lakh).

Among the 12 upazilas of the district, 11 are affected very badly. Flood water damaged transplanted Aman paddy, Aman paddy seedlings, seed beds, Aush paddy, vegetables, Banana and lemon.

Flood water damaged standing crops including summer vegetables on 1464 hectares, 10588 hectares of Aman seedlings, 1359 hectares of transplanted Aman, 1808 hectares of Aush, 1452 hectares tel (black gram), 65 hectares of sugarcane, 45 hectares of banana field and 380 hectares of lemon field making the farmers worried about their food security.
