Three flyovers from Joydebpur to Elenga to Hatikumrul will be opened to traffic today (Monday) to handle the rush on the roads ahead of Eid, reports UNB.

"I went to inspect these in person on Saturday. Opening of these three flyovers will help solve the traffic problem a lot," said Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Md Nazrul Islam.

He also expressed the hope that home-bound people will not suffer during upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

In response to a question from reporters, the secretary said this at the handing over ceremony of the first phase check of Dhaka Bypass Expressway under construction in a private-public partnership at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday.

Nowjor, Safipur and Gorai, three flyovers, are opening today (Monday), he said.

Abdullahpur to Joydebpur crossroads, Joydebpur crossroads to Elenga and Elenga to Hatikumrul face traffic congestion every time, he added.

Another bridge in Sirajganj's Nalka will be opened today (Monday) to traffic, said Nazrul Islam. "The work was supposed to be completed later, but we have already done it considering Eid."

Besides, the intersections at Elenga junction are being widened. There is a road to Jamalpur and Mymensingh via Tarakanda, Madhupur and Ghatail through Bangabandhu Bridge. "We have discussed the issue with highway police, we have an option to divert the vehicles from Mymensingh-Jamalpur on this road."
