FM focuses on quality edn to reduce dev gap

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali Sunday called for improving quality of education to help the country reach the middle-income status by 2021, reports UNB.
"We need to focus on the quality of education to reduce the disparity in development," he said at the 'Merit Scholarship' giving ceremony at East West University in the city.
"Quality education will play a key role in reaching the targets of a middle income economy by 2021 and a developed one by 2041," Mahmood said.
Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the university, said women also need quality education to help achieve gender equality.
He mentioned that women accounted for 30 per cent of the students at East West University, but they shared 60 per cent of the scholarships offered by the institution.
Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Ahmed Shafee congratulated the 93 students who got merit scholarships for Spring and Summer Semesters in 2014.
