Former adviser Azizul Haque passes away

Former adviser to the interim government of 2007 and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) M Azizul Haque died of a massive heart attack at his Uttara residence in the city on Wednesday, reports BSS. He was 84.

He left behind his wife, three sons and a host of relatives, well-wishers and admirers to mourn his death.

The namaj-e janaza of Azizul was held at the SI Shiru Mia auditorium at Rajarbagh Police Lines after Johr prayers where senior police officers, retired police officers and his relatives and well-wishers joined.

He was buried at a graveyard in the city's Uttara area after Asr prayers.

Azizul Haque, hailed from a respectable Muslim family of Jhiltuly village under Faridpur Sadar, joined the then Pakistan police service as an assistant superintendent of police in 1965.

Haque was promoted as the IGP on April 22 in 1996 and performed his duties till November 16 in 1997. He went on the retirement on December 11 in 1998.

He was later appointed as an adviser to the interim government of 2007.
