Four killed, 36 injured in separate road mishaps

JOYPURHAT, Dec 25 (UNB): Four people were killed and 36 others injured in separate road mishaps Tuesday.
In Joypurhat, a man was killed and three others injured in a road accident as a bus fell into a roadside ditch at Amutra on Joypurhat-Akkelpur highway Monday.
Sources said a Dhaka-bound truck from Jamalganj carrying chicken fell into a roadside ditch as the driver lost control over steering, killing its labourer Mizan, of Ganda village in Bogra district, on the spot.
Three injured persons were admitted to Akkelpur Health Complex in critical condition.
Another report from Jessore adds: A woman was killed and two others injured when a truck hit their motorbike at Rajarhat under Monirampur Upazila on the same day.
Police said a Jessore-bound truck hit the motorbike of Abdullah Al Maroof from behind when he was returning home from his relative's house along with his daughter and wife, killing his wife Rehana Khatun (27), on the spot.
Maroof and his 4-year-old daughter Mita were injured.
Police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.
Maroof and Mita were admitted to the same hospital where Mita's condition was stated to be critical. A case was filed in this connection.
In Narsingdi, at least 30 people were injured in a head-on collision between two buses at Marjal under Raipura Upazila on Dhaka-Sylhet highway Monday.
Witnesses said a Sylhet-bound bus collided with a Dhaka-bound bus soon after they reached the spot at about 9:00 am, injuring 30 passengers of the both buses.
Four of the injured were admitted to District Hospital while the rest to different clinics of the area.
Police seized the two buses. A case was filed with the Raipura police station.
In Sirajganj, two people, including a schoolteacher, were killed and a minor girl injured in separate road mishaps on a connecting road on the western part of Jamuna Bridge Tuesday.
Police said Amir Hossain (45), headmaster of Zarila Porabari Government Primary School, was crushed under the wheels of a truck at Kodda crossing at about 10:30 am.
In another incident, a 30-year-old woman, Rahima, died instantly when a coach coming from Dhaka knocked her down at Saydabad while she was crossing the road with her daughter, Jasmine, around 12:45 pm. Injured Jasmine (6), was admitted to Sadar Hospital.
Traffic on the road was disrupted for half an hour as the agitated local people barricaded it with another coach.
On information, police and RAB members rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
