FE REPORT | January 20, 2023 00:00:00

The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Thursday issued a public notice against 18 private universities for their failure to shift operation to their permanent campuses.

The UGC also asked four of them not to enroll new students on the old campuses.

The four universities are Prime Asia University, Stamford University, Bangladesh, Asa University and Victoria University.

The UGC directed the universities to suspend fresh enrolment in all of their academic programmes as the institutions failed to shift their operation to permanent campuses within the stipulated timeframe.

The Commission further directed State University and Manarat International University to keep enrolling new students in the academic programmes on their permanent campuses and completely close admission to all the academic programmes on their temporary campuses.

Dhaka International University, Royal University, Southeast University, City University, The Millennium University and Bangladesh University have been given time till March 31, 2023 to transfer their entire operation including educational programmes to the permanent campus, read the UGC notice.

They have been given the additional period considering the visible progress in shifting to permanent campuses.

"In case of failure to shift all programmes, including educational programmes, to the permanent campuses within the given period, the admission of new students in all programmes will completely be closed from 1st April 2023. Also, all temporary campuses or buildings other than the permanent campus of these universities will be considered illegal after the notice period," the UGC added.
