GAZIPUR, June 25 (UNB): The authorities of a readymade garment (RMG) factory in Taragach area here closed their unit Wednesday following labour unrest for wage hike.
Sources said at least 3,000 workers of 'Hop Lun Apparels' went on work abstention and staged demonstrations in the morning seeking a wage hike, lunch bill and pure drinking water.
As the workers tried to protest outside the factory, police obstructed them and confined them to the factory.
Later, the authorities declared their factory closed for the day.
Additional police have been deployed to fend off further trouble.
