Germany has seen a record growth in the number of Bangladeshi students with 730 more pupils enrolling in different German universes in the winter semester of 2013-14, reports BSS.

The number of newly-enrolled students was higher by over 500 compared to those of two years ago. Around 72 per cent of Bangladeshi students go to Germany for programmes in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related subjects and fields.

In a joint effort to further promote educational opportunities in Germany, the German Embassy, represented by its Cultural Attache Christian Zrpel and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), represented by its Dhaka University-based Lecturer Marie Kretzschmar, organised a two-day info sessions at the University of Dhaka and the Chittagong University of Engineering on December 3 and 4 respectively.

Speaking in front of full auditoriums at the two universities, the German representatives covered all topics with regard to "Higher Education in Germany". Several hundred curious students and faculty members were informed on the study programmes on offer, admission procedures, student life in Germany, scholarship opportunities and the visa procedure.

Both events saw lively question and answer sessions with the audience covering a range of interesting details.

Introducing the students of both universities to vital components of the German culture, Peter Naryshkin, an international award-winning piano student of famous Carl-Maria-von-Weber University of Music in Dresden, Germany, performed pieces of Chopin, Liszt and other famous composers. Listeners enjoyed the rare delight of having an on-stage pianist of international fame play on their campuses.
