Development organisation Ghashful has presented Eid gifts to Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, showcasing products made by marginal communities and highlighting the potential of safe agriculture and the rural economy.

The gifts were handed over at the minister's Mehedibagh residence in Chattogram on May 27 by Ghashful Chairman and Chittagong University Senate member Dr Monzur-ul-Amin Chowdhury and the organisation's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Aftabur Rahman Jafree.

According to Ghashful, the Eid package included a commemorative volume on the life and work of its founder, late Shamsunnahar Rahman Paran, edited by Dr Monzur-ul-Amin Chowdhury, along with safe spices and agricultural products produced by the organisation's beneficiaries.

During the meeting, Ghashful representatives outlined the organisation's long-standing efforts to promote safe and sustainable agriculture in remote parts of the country.

They said Ghashful was working to strengthen rural livelihoods through organic fruit and vegetable cultivation, poultry and livestock farming, fisheries development, farmer training, distribution of improved seeds, microfinance services, and market linkage support, helping build a sustainable rural economic ecosystem.

The organisation also highlighted initiatives for branding and value addition of region-specific traditional products and agricultural resources to expand their presence in domestic and international markets.

These efforts, it said, were expected to further strengthen the rural economy.

The finance minister called on organisations such as Ghashful to continue supporting government initiatives aimed at promoting economic development and public welfare.

He also emphasised the importance of maintaining water flow in canals and ponds excavated under Ghashful's ongoing projects in drought-prone areas with support from PKSF, noting that such measures could help mitigate the impacts of climate change while benefiting agriculture, fisheries, and rural communities.
