Girl was raped before strangulation

A teenage girl found dead in an abandoned train compartment at Kamalapur Railway Station was raped before she was strangled, a doctor said on Tuesday, report agencies.

The victim was identified as Asma Akter (17), daughter of Abdur Razzaque of Panchagarh Sadar upazila.

After a post-mortem examination, Dr Pradip Biswash of Dhaka Medical College Hospital's forensic department said they found evidence of rape.

"She was strangled to death," he said. "There were several injury marks on the body."

Asma's uncle said she had been missing since Sunday after eloping with Badhan, son of Bhutto Tayar, of the locality. The boy too could not be traced since then. Police recovered Asma's body from the toilet of an abandoned train compartment around 10:30 am on Monday and sent it to DMCH for autopsy.
