Two held over killing the eighth grader after gang-rape

Police have recovered decomposed body of a schoolgirl (13) from Hatirjheel Lake area of the capital 17 days after her going missing and also arrested two persons over killing the eighth grader after gang-rape.
The arrestees were identified as Robin Hossain (32) and Md Rabbi Mridha (26). Robin Hossain is a driver by profession while Rabbi Mridha has no profession.
Deputy Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Uttara zone, Rawnak Jahan disclosed the development to the media at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre at Mintoo Road in the capital on Monday.
She said police during a combing operation in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district nabbed them on January 30, 2025.
According to Dakshinkhan Police Station, the victim had gone outside her house at around 2:30 pm on January 16.
Her father filed a general diary (GD) with the police station on January 19 as she did not return to her house until then.
Later he knew from local people that some miscreants kidnapped his daughter by using a private car from in front of Joynal Market at Dakshinkhan on January 16.
Her father filed a kidnap case with Dakkhin Khan Police Station on January 27.
Police using modern information technology and examining mobile call list of the victim managed to arrest the duo from Sreepur of Gazipur district on January 30.
The arrestees were produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Dhaka, on January 31 and the court granted two days' remand for interrogating them.
Based on information grilled from the arrestees during remand, police recovered decomposed body of the girl, wrapped in a bag, from a nearby road in Hatirjheel Lake area of the city on Sunday.
The police official further said that the arrestees gave confessional statement to the court under Section 164 in this connection. Efforts are underway to hunt down the absconding accused in the killing case.
