In terms of participation, girl students will outnumber their male counterpart at the 49th convocation of Dhaka University (DU) scheduled to be held tomorrow (Tuesday) at the university's central playground.
This year, a total of 6,104 students of the university and its affiliated institutions will be conferred with graduation degree and awards, DU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique said while briefing journalists at the university's administrative building Sunday.
"Of the participating graduates including honours, masters, Mphil and PhD, some 3,367 students are female while only 2,737 boys got their registration," the VC said.
To prepare students, the university authorities will arrange a rehearsal programme about 3:00pm today (Monday). The vice chancellor asked the attending students to take part at mock demo.
He said the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Francis Gurry will address the farewell ceremony as the convocation speaker while President and Chancellor of the university M Abdul Hamid will chair the gala function.
Meanwhile, BNP-Jamaat backed white panel teachers won't participate in the farewell ceremony accusing the existing university authorities of not ensuring equal rights for all students and irregularities in the administration.
