The High Court on Thursday granted bail to expelled Jubo League leader Golam Kibria Shamim, popularly known as GK Shamim, in a case filed over amassing illegal wealth worth Tk2.97 billion.

The ACC filed the case against GK Shamim, a top government-listed contractor, and his mother on October 21, 2019 on charge of accumulating illegal wealth worth Tk2.97 billion.

Earlier on December 13, 2023, the same HC bench granted bail to GK Shamim in an arms case in which he had been awarded life imprisonment by a special tribunal.
However, the HC order regarding the arms case is now pending before the apex court full bench.
Rapid Action Battalion members on September 20, 2019 arrested Shamim and his seven bodyguards on charges of extortion and tender manipulation.
